PHILYMPIA-INTERNATIONAL PHILATELIC EXHIBITION, LONDON, 18 September 1970
Full sheet of un-issued stamps.
This year it is Great Britain's turn to be host to the International Philatelic Exhibition which is being held in the Empire Hall, Olympia, from 18 to 26 September 1970.
The exhibition is sponsored jointly by the Royal Philatelic Society, London, the world's premier Society for Amateur collectors, the British Philatelic Association, formed in 1926 for the aid and protection of everyone interested in philately and the Philatelic Traders' Society which gives stamp collectors a guarantee of fair dealing and best professional attendance.
The exhibition is in 2 main sections, the competitive section, where the cream of the world's collections are on display and the trade stands where stamp dealers from all parts of the world are represented.
The British Post Office stand is the largest that the Post Office has ever occupied at a philatelic exhibition and covers a site of some 8,000 feet, on the second floor of Empire Hall
The Stamps
This is the first time that the Post Office has issued a set of stamps incorporating in their design other earlier stamps.
The 5d stamp carries a reproduction of the "Penny Black", the world first adhesive postage stamp, issued on 6 May 1840.
