I've acquired from my grandmother's estate what my parents think is an umbrella or cane stand. We think it's bronze but are not postive as it could also be copper. It has no magnetic properties and no makers marks that I can find. It stands about 23 1/2" tall and weighs about 15 lbs. It could be Japanese? Can anyone help me determine exactly what this is?? Thank you!!

Hi Worthans, definitely bronze, and good bronze at that. Almost certainly Japanese.
Cane and umbrella stand is as good a guess as any. It would not hurt the patina to wash it with mild soap, but no abrasives, buff with a soft cloth. Regards, Jim
Thank you Jim! Do you have any idea how to tell the difference between an umbrella stand or cane stand?
Hi, not really. I think it can be whichever you want, or a combo. Best wishes, Jim
Definitely not copper. Copper is pink.
Its bronze, Japanese, turn of the century
