I think these screw back painted cat earrings are from china or japan.
They always make me think of the cat-bus in the movie "My Neighbour Totoro".
In some parts of China they believe cats have the ability to see things we humans cant see, for example gosts. So they keep cat symbols around their house to keep bad spirits away.
In Japan, "Zhao Cai Mao" or "cats that bring good fortune" are very popular since some decades. (This is the cat with one paw up).
The earrings are handpainted on copper.
Anyone an idea about the period these beauties were made? And if they are Japanese or Chinese?
Thanks a lot.
