This post is in response to Roycrofts post on his 2mm pinfire.
Here are 3 different types of Austria marked 2mm pinfire pistols which began in the late 1800's.
Photo #1 Top: is an early AUSTRIA marked (the most common way they were marked), with a bored through barrel, and a side barrel pin spring.
Photo #1 Bottom: is a later production, AUSTRIA marked, bored through barrel, but without the side barrel pin spring.
Photo #2 is showing the most common AUSTRIA marking. The most uncommon marking is a 6-pointed star (with or without a dot in the center of the star). Another mark was a vertical AUSTRIA side mark on the front right side of the frame. Another is MADE IN AUSTRIA shown in photo #4.
Photo #3 & 4: is a later production where the barrel is no longer bored through, but the end is blocked and each side of the barrel is vented. This is commonly seen on Japan marked 2mm pinfires manufactured after WWII. This was a safety feature prohibiting placing a projectile in the barrel and firing it out.
