Scored this nice kettle at the flea market this morning. It has a 20 gallon capacity and is in great shape. No cracks, and both handles and all three legs are intact. Not sure if I'll use it as a planter or a fire pot. I'm leaning towards a fire pot.

Very nice ! Looks like something for cooking outside in over a fire but it does look like something I saw on the farm too?
here is one like it if that helps :-)

Thanks for the love folks! Manikin, I believe it was used for cooking or rendering. You can see the other protrusions (for lack of a better word) on the side near the top that look like they would hold the kettle above a frame or something. I couldn't pass it up. They had a sticker on it with $65. Said if I wanted it, I could have it for $60. I had to have it for that price, especially in the condition that it's in. Other people around here are asking the same kind of prices as the one on that eBay like. I couldn't believe that someone didn't buy it before me.

My dad use to use one of these to cook barley in to feed to calves to fatten them up. He used to show cattle as a kid in the 30's.

I still have the one we used on the farm. I remember dad cooking grain in it to fatten a hog, and I also remember my mom making lye soap in it.

Perfect arrangement dstruble46, once the hog was butchered your mom had the lard she needed for the soap.
Ah the memories created from a large cast pot:-)
