This is a white glass jug, very much in the aesthetic taste. It is like a stripped down version of roman glass jugs. Circa. 1880s, it is 8 inches tall.

It looks so streamlined! I am very ignorant of decanters, and I don't have an intelligent opinion on the evolution of styles in decanters, but I must say that I would never have imagined this as 1880s had you not said that it was. Are there many porcelain jugs contemporaneous with this glass jug that have this streamlined appearance? The only ones I can think of with simple forms have elaborate naturalistic decors. Seeking to learn! Thank you! : )
If you look at the reproduction roman jug I have, you can see design elements from that in this jug. The spiral in the neck, the ripple in the handle, even the shape is not too far removed. The aesthetic movement stole design elements, for all over, Roman, Egyption, Greek, Japanese, country crafts and wove them into one, trying to make less be more. Sometimes to the point of being forward looking, if you look at some of the Christopher Dresser designs from the 1870s they look Art Deco. I have a couple of his claret jugs I will load and you will see one is very Art Deco looking for the 1870s.

I am rather fond of aesthetic movement porcelain and silver, and instantly recognize the style in porcelain and silver, but I am very ignorant of the glass then produced.
