I am having trouble identifying the marks on the back of this plate. I cannot find anything when googling. I would like to date it. The back has an image of globe with a sword going through it. It says "SUNA FAMA EST MELNDA ZONA AUREA" (or something close to that) around the globe. Below that it is marked "DELFT". It measures 6 1/2" in diameter & is not perfectly round.

      Hi CU!
Bona fama melior est zona aurea.
A good reputation is more valuable than any golden belt.
The trademark globe with sword going through it which was used by the Edwin Bennett Pottery Company after 1890. The company was located in Baltimore from 1846 to 1936. Delft, English Delft and in this case American Delft.

According to this site http://www.brothers-handmade.com/pottery-marks.html the mark on this plate was used from 1890-1897.
