Here is a US silver dollar, and it is such a beautiful coin. I have never owned one of these before, but now I do. I do not know much about coins, but they sure do not make them like this anymore. Can anyone tell me if this is better than melt quality? Also where would the mint mark be? Is there one?
Thanks!

Mintmark would be on the reverse under the center of the wreath and above the D & O in dollar. There is no mintmark on your coin. The 1899 plain had a total mintage of 21,726,000 coins which was in fact the most minted of all the years and mints of the Morgan Dollar.
Doesn't the absence of a mint mark mean Phil., PA?
mustangtony you mean 1889?
