This is a 1:18 scale die-cast model of a Buick Riviera GS (Gran Sport).
The Riviera was radically redesigned for the 1971 model year with flowing boat-tail styling and a two-piece fastback rear window, inspired by the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray split window coupe. It also sported two large deck lid louvers on the trunk lid.

Wasn't that about the ugliest design ever? Raspberry award that.

blunderbuss2 I always thought they were very unique. When I would see one at a car show I couldn't take my eyes off of it. My wife on the other hand shared your opinion, she thought they look funny.

Great laughs! I lived thru that era & thought those & the Marlin were the worst styles ever. Well, opinions are like (you know), everybody has one. I was wondering if I would get a response.

Hell, I had a '57 Chevy convertible 1st, '62 Corvair, '64(?)GTO, '62 Sprite, barracuda, '50 MGTD + Mercedes & then left the States. Brought 7 trucks to the islands before settling on the '88 Mazda B2200 in premo condition I keep today as it is pre- computer & can work on it myself without being ripped off. There were 6 Mini Mokes & 1 Mini pickup somewhere in there. The MGTD is still my favourite & always looking for another one to rebuild even though I'm too old to do it. Now you know my favourite. Have one?

I just might poste my '88 mazda! Everybody who knows cars is looking for the pre-computer. I have 3 friends that I have sworn to each that they will have first option when or if I decide to sell it! Bought 5 days before 9/11 for $1,600, paid $1,005 shipping, net profit of $8,500 on contraband packed in it, & it has probably made $15K plus hauling stuff since on the side! Been good to me & I'm good to it! Just can't use it for "drive-bys" because everybody on the island knows it immediately. I'm having too much fun here, must be time to go to bed!

I had one just like that ,but the tan body was sligthly darker. When my daughter was born I took my wife to the hospital in the Riv on an icy night. The water pump was shot and it over heated. I kept going. I had to burn rubber through black ice up the last 100 yd hill to the hospital.

This is magnificent, I could look at these cars of yours all day long. What beauties ! I love the look of the back of the car, if it were backing up you could easily imagine that was the front of the car coming at you !~
  9. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 1 year ago
    That's it! It's built backwards!

Hi there blunderbuss2, Are you still picking on that poor Riviera?
  11. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 1 year ago
Yeah, I'm bored & it's the easiest target.

This was Telly Savalas's ride in the Kojak series.

Did the original have those louvers in the trunk? I don't remember them. Very nice, and the vinyl top detail is awesome!

The 1971 Riviera featured a "Full-Flo" ventilation system and two large deck lid louvers are prominent on the trunk lid. (Unfortunately, under certain conditions a vacuum was created that sucked rain and exhaust back into the car and the "Full-Flo" ventilation was redesigned and the louvers were removed from trunk lid for the 1972 model year.)

So it comes out. You finally admit that the design sucks!

I have to say I really missed you blunderbuss. How are you?

Luckily without a '71 Riviera Pops! Well, guess it was pre-puter so could be worked on without paying some uneducated clown with an analyzer to charge for work never performed.
