Writing looks arabic and SOME of the shapes suggest Middle Eastern as well.

    The parents again?
This one looks like it's copying Assyrian or Persian art.
We need someone with Arabic skills. Mine are almost nil. The quality of this tray is excellent. Mind you anything with figures on it is not for domestic use. It would be tourist ware rather than for the Muslim world.
Is it Darius being presented a lion cub at the Apadana in Persepolis?
    Attendant with a fan?
    Very stylised palm trees.
    Zoroastrian?

    Ashurnasirpal II at Nimrud ?
There are three different motifs on this tray!

Hi... I LOVE this piece. It's definitely Persian, and I agree with comment from vetraio50. I speak and read Persian, but I am having a very hard time reading what this says... The first 2 words are not legible, but the last 2 words says "Hafez Parast"... The bad news is that without the first 2 words, the last 2 doesn't make sense either.
Anyways... It's gorgeous and I LOVE IT

If you ever decide to sell it, please let me know... I left Iran with one suitcase 30 years ago....

Thanks for the information DrFluffy, it sounds like you have an interesting, and probably sad story to tell. At least I know it is a Persian tray. I will keep you in mind should I part with it. Thanks again for the information!
