Hi stuff, your drum is Chinese rather than Japanese. All of the corners above and below the carvings are adorned with the Chinese symbol for 'Shou' representing the Chinese Star God of the same name, and having the meaning longevity or long life. The dragon, male, and phoenix, female are rooted in ancient Chinese culture and associated with yin and yang. Regards, Jim
Thank You Jim, I appreciate the input.
the most important question: what's it SOUND like??
Just tapping it with my fingers it sounds like a drum, I am not a musician so I am not sure how to describe pitch or tone if that is what you mean.
