Found this little doll or salesman sample trunk in an antique store. It's covered in metal. It has one front latch missing and leather handles the ends are missing. It did not have the tray. It is 10-1/2 inches long, 6-1/4 inches tall and 6-1/4 inches deep. The lock says Bassett. I am interested in finding out how old it is? I would also like to know if it was a doll trunk or a salesman sample?

Eye4beauty is my scout -- looks to me like perhaps a 1930's trunk. As far as my limited knowledge on the subject goes I do not believe they made salesmen samples of trunks -- so this is most likely a document box or as you say a doll trunk.
Thanks Trunkman. I always appreciate your knowledge. It was cheap and I thought it was cute - or at least it will be with some TLC. I have a doll trunk coming tomorrow - and that's definitely what it is. I'll post it and be interested in what you might be able to tell me about it also, if you're willing. Thanks again!
