We are new at this and don't know how to post pictures but the description is a token marked 39th USI C&R 25c. No one can really tell us anything except one person said it is a civil war token given to the buffalo soldiers for pay. He said there are no others that exist. Does anyone know anything about this token? We will try to find someone who can help us send a pic. Thank You, David
We would really like some info. on this token.
This could be a suttlers token. There is a book on these but I don't have one.

Did you buy the token from the guys posting on that thread? The last post indicates it was sold.
But anyways, the 39th wasn't formed until 1866 when the army was reorganized.
Can you tell us anything about what it might be made of, how big it is and any markings on the other side?
There are no markings on the other side. It is blank. As to whether or not we bought it from someone who had it posted I don't know. The token was dug up in southern Okalhoma. We know the gentleman who had it. Yes, We were told it is a Sutler token. We think it is made of brass.
This token is about the size of a nickle.

This guy's got one marked 10c. The 39th usi existed between 1866 and 1869, so that's a pretty tight date range. Whether it was given as pay, like later company mining tokens, I don't know. It could have served as change in a transaction with the sutler. It's interesting to me because its not 'struck' with a die, but instead the letters hand punched on a disc. That would have taken longer to make, so there are probably less.
A gentleman e-mailed me and said that he has seen a 50c and a 10c but, never a 25c. Very interesting to say the least.
