    lovedecant…
    (237 items)

This is a Whitefriars silver topped decanter, designed by Harry Powell hallmarked for 1906. It is dark green tapered with 4 dimples and an applied neck ring. The stopper is sterling hallmarked for London 1906 and a makers mark of JP&S for James Powell and Sons. It has a screw with a nut on on the inside to hold a cork in place that seals the bottle.

Anyone that collects Whitefriars will know this is my prize, silver topped Whitefriars decanters are incredibly rare. I bought this at an antiques fair in North London about 15 years ago for £9. Yes, I kid you not. Whilst handing over my tenner and waiting for my £1 change I almost exploded with excitment, as up until then I had only seen such things in museums.

Beautiful, beautiful. So elegant & restrained. This is why I love Powell glass.

The silver top though, I didn't think Powell made them. I thought they went out to makers like Walker & Hall etc.

Yes, Whitefriars had their own makers mark for the small items like tops they made. They are extremely rare. The last decanter I saw with one was about 7 years ago and was for sale for £3,000, but it was much larger than this one.
