VINTAGE TAPIO WIRKKALA FOR IITTALA -FINLAND
A stunning vase ive found online on friday , very beautiful tapio vase from iittala , its called the Sointu vase , made in finland . im guessing late 1950's to early 1960's , theres engraving on the bottom marked "506" .

1915-1985
Born in Hanko, Finland. Tapio Wirkkala is known as the versatile genius of design. His contribution to design includes everything from glass products to the design of banknotes and graphic art. During his career, Wirkkala has participated in many interntional exhibitions, as well as being the artistic director of the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki for many years. He has won a large number of awards, including three gold medals at the Triennale in Milan in 1951, followed by another three in 1954.

It's called "Sointu", Sean, I think. It comes in a couple of sizes, ...... maybe three. I had two others but have sold them I kept the really small one. I thought the pattern worked better on the smallest version. How big is this one?

Look carefully and it should have a "TW" on the bottom too!
Mine is 16 cm or 6.3" high,
It is 8cm wide or 3.2".
I'm not sure about those engraved numbers.

vetraio . it is 7 inches tall . i was looking for the name is on the but mostly worn off but its there and very hard to see . where would it be ? that is the first time ive ever seen the numbers like that before . Amberrose lol,hahahaha. thankyou inky for the kind words.
I have had three of these and each one has had just the initials TW.

this must an early one , because the label is in the form of a triangle.
There's a 22 cm version, that's 8.66 inches. It's 16.5 wide or 6.49 inches.
Your's is the 17.8 cm version. That's 7 inches as you say.
Mine is small in comparison.

I see that it was produced from 1979 to 1992.
I think Sointu means Chord, Harmony.
