Alfredo
(509 items)

THIS IS FOLLOWUP TO A RECENT POST BY LOETZ BUDDDIES (PIC. 1). TILL NOW, THIS SHAPE HAS ROUTINELY ATTRIBUTED TO WELZ, THOUGH HE CALLS IT KRALIK.

I DO HAVE IT IN THREE OTHER DECORS, THE RAREST BEING PIC. 2., RED WITH GREEN AVENTURINE (A FAVORITE KRALIK , HARRACH, REIDEL COMBINATION). A BIG DIFFERENCE: THE PINK HAS A POLISHED PONTIL, NONE OF MINE DOES.

HOWEVER, ONLY YESTERDAY I FOUND AND BOUGHT THE PIC. 3 PIECE. INNER WHITE GLASS COVERED IN LIGHT BLUE, WITH HUGE CONTRASTING PINK MURRINES (PIC. 4), AND A COBALT STIRRUP FOOT. 10" HIGH. NO MARKINGS (AT LEAST, NONE THE SELLER HAS PERCEIVED).

WE KNOW THAT WELZ BOUGHT GLASS PATENTS THAT THEN IT LEASED OR SHARED WITH OTHER COMPANIES. SUCH IS THE CASE FOR A LATE 1890'S PATENT FOR "SELENIUM PINK" THAT WAS SHARED WITH KRALIK.

SO, GIVEN THE SIMILARITIES OF THE VASES ABOVE BOTH IN TERMS OF SHAPE AND DECOR, IT IS PROBABLY SAFE TO ASSUME WHOEVER MADE ONE, MADE THE OTHERS. OR IS IT POSSIBLE THAN AN EXPORTER, UPON RECEIVING A LARGE ORDER, WOULD DISTRIBUTE IT AMONG THE DIFFERENT COMPANIES WITH WHOM IT CONDUCTED BUSINESS?

MURRINE DECOR, BY THE WAY, HAS NEVER BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH LOETZ. AVENTURINE HAS.

ANYWAY, I BOUGHT THE PIECE BECAUSE A) MEETS MY PREFERRED HEIGHT CRITERIA; B) PINK GLASS FREAKS ME OUT ENTIRELY. IN OTHER WORDS, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT!

Hey Alfredo...awesome pieces... I saw number 3 on ebay...you might want to confirm the height...(you may already have) because the title stated 10" but the description stated 8 3/4". Still very nice piece...I bid on it also but it got two high for me...I liked it becasue I have a fan vase just like it.

In fact, he has a larger one, which he is sending me because of the size mixup. . . . . .

Kyle, I had noticed that too. This is amazing. So, now what do we do about provenance marks?
