I found this pin in a second-hand store for about three dollars. It is very light, but seems to be very old. Could this be celluloid?
    Thanks for looking :)

Moonstonelover21, could this be a lava cameo??? The back looks close to one you have posted. I have read about them but I never had one in my hands:(

Cameoshleuth, If I may ask: What do you make of this one? I think it is molded or pressed, too. In my humble opinion, this one is much older than the "mystery cameo". Thanks in advance,
      Gudrun

Hi Gudrun. I have seen her many times so definitely a mass produced item. She often turns up in 'lava glass' & sometimes gets mistaken for the real thing. I have never handled one, so don't know if I would decide glass or some kind of resin. Sometimes she gets fine crazing all over. My guess is that she is some sort of polymer, but an earlier one - I agree she is older than La' Gatiere, et al. - that is not as stable as newer ones. She is made in 2 pieces; sometimes the figure turns up without the background.

Not sure what to make of the setting for yours. That overlong pin gives the impression of a Victorian era piece, but these cameos are not so old as that. Does not look like the cameo is a replacement for something else. A puzzlement. Is the clasp bent? Or something more complicated than a standard C clasp?
