For a modest blue collar family, there were not a lot of luxuries. Grandma's crystal and china, some fine Irish linens, and her silverware. The use of "everyday" silverware suggested that there was another set for special occasions. Indeed there was. Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter were likely the only times you would see this set. (Don't even think dishwasher !!! Each piece was washed individually, rinsed, and hand dried after the meal! Those were the days..Really? ! ?

One sister...One kid washed the glasses, silver, and dishes, the other kid dried them. The switch and who ever dried now washed the pots and pans while the other one dried! I LOVE my dishwasher! LOL

The name of this pattern is Buttercup, made by Gorham. (I wasn't sure if you knew.) Too few people treasure their family silver, I'm glad you do!
