I have this millstone and I am not sure where it came from. I live in Minnesota. I am pretty sure I got it from my grandpa but that is about it. Can anyone tell me a little more about this stone. Thanks.

The grooves on the wheel made me think grist wheel. Here is a link that show one of these grain grinding mills that has 16" wheels.

That is what I was thinking. I did see the pictures of the small mill. The stone looks like it has never been used on one side and the side with the two small holes has the pattern but it totally flat. Do you know if they make reproduction stones?
That I couldn't tell you. But I could kinda see a market there...hmm?, but there are not many of these left in an operational condition, and it would be alot of work to make that in granite for the hell of it. Was your grandfather a farmer by chance? Theres missing info on the provenance. Maybe hit some family up for info. But without this missing info, and don't quote me here but I would say it is a period piece/replacement. It has some dings and chips here and there but then again it looks unused and or new old stock. These would wear out so having replacement stones to the prepared man would be a necessity, just my opinion. I'd mount it on a piece of nice oak and put it on the shelf as both a rememberance of your Grandfather, and to pass the legacy on to the great grandkids.
