Thanks to RussTenale I am able to put not only a name but a face to this piece. The artist is Lynn Lais. He works out of Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville Maryland. Has been making pottery since 1981 and has collections in US and Europe.

Thanks Russ!!!!!!!

Excuse my thoughts. You sure have some obscure unsolved mysteries. This one in particular. LL (N) ends in K or S
  18. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
Obscure, I have been told that's what collecting is all about. I buy what I like and if I can figure out who it belongs to just an added bonus:)
    Thanks for looking!
  19. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
So sorry, obscure to the mark, not the beautiful vase.
  20. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
I GOT IT!!!!! I CAN TELL YOU WHO MADE THIS!!!
  21. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
No need to apologize, I did not take your comment wrong:)
  22. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
No way, we've been looking a while now. How did you do it and who is it?
  23. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Well, I do apologize for not wording my comment correctly. And I can tell you exactly who made this vase.
  24. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    Ok Russ, spill the beans:)
  25. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Do you want to follow along, and see what my mind's eye sees?
  26. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    Of course!
  27. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Ok, very important, trust the eye.
  28. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    Okay, you have my attention.
  29. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
    This will be fun.
  30. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    Lets go!
  31. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Look at the signature. This person uses sharp hard lines.
  32. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Those are no question two L's
  33. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    You think?
  34. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
And that is not a K at the end, this person would have used three sharp strokes, one vertical and two angled.
  35. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
Lol! You really have me now!
  36. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
This person uses a curve only once and it is here at the end creating an S.
  37. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    And the middle?
  38. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
Is for sure no question IS at the end
  39. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    LL?IS
    A?
  40. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
The third character is the toughest. Put your pen or marker to paper. The first contact of your writing instrument will leave a blotch or dot. See it at the top of the first L?
  41. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
    Yes I see it.
  42. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
So this artist cleverly uses the horizontal stroke from the 2nd L to merge with the third mark to create an A. Common practice for artists.

So you have LLAIS. Did a search, no potter by that name. Well how about L. LAIS?

    Ready? Here we go ...

  49. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
    Was that fun?
  50. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
Yes it was. You remind me of a dear friend.
  51. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 months ago
This is an example of devoting proper time.
  52. nldionne nldionne, 2 months ago
I'd have to start paying you salary if you took this much time with all of my unknown pieces.
