I have always loved the art deco pixie bookends since I first found a single one with the arm cut off. It was not for sale, but a year later I did buy it as the store was closing. To this day, I cannot but try to bid on these bookends, as I love them so much !!

They have always been incorrectly called Gerdago girls, but he did not sculpt ones identical to these, nor did she ever work in spelter. Designed first in 1927 by Henri Fugere. Fugere was born in 1872 and died in 1944. He studied with Barrias, Cavelier, Peusch, etc and exhibited at The Salon, Paris.
He was predominantly an Art Deco sculptor.

There are 2 varieties. This is the variety that holds the book in 2 hands with a more masculine face.
I will post the other variety in a second posting. The other variety was found by Harold Berman to be by Henri Fugere, info page 1174
