Bookends by Art Deco sculptor Henri Fugere, (1872-1944) C. 1927
Fugere studied with Barrias, Cavelier and Puech and exhibited at the Paris Salon. He was predominantly an art deco sculptor.
Information from page 1174, Bronzes 1800-1930 by Harold Berman.
These are usually described as being Gerdago, who never sculpted these at all. Gerdago never sculpted in spelter.
These were sculpted by Fugere as bookends, at least that is what I have found out after searching books on bronzes, and seeing some photos. They were continued as bookends by the JB Hirsch Foundry who made most of the bookends that found their way in North America.
I am still on the lookout and wanting to buy more when the funds do not escape me.
