I think this depicts someone gill net fishing. The sketch on the mat board must be the boat and the net strung up to dry. I don't know much about this type of fishing so I could easily be wrong. My commercial fishing & whaling ancestors would probably get a chuckle out of my ignorance on the subject.
You know more about it than you think if you even know about gill fishing. Thanks for taking time!
