    Need help deciphering this signature. Bought this at auction for 5 bucks. Thought it an interesting picture. Cat knocked this over and the old wooden back fell away Revealing this signature.

      My guess is #1946 Oak.

      The frame looks like oak to me.

      I think this depicts someone gill net fishing. The sketch on the mat board must be the boat and the net strung up to dry. I don't know much about this type of fishing so I could easily be wrong. My commercial fishing & whaling ancestors would probably get a chuckle out of my ignorance on the subject.
