This a Georgian rummer and cover. with a press moulded foot and cut with panels and flat cut stars. The cover has moulded ribs and facet cut spire finial, circa 1790. With cover its about 7 inches high.

After torturing you with some of my ale glass collection I though I should show you something nice and rare. Rummers with their covers are very rare, this one looks to be right to, i.e. this is the cover that was made to go with this rummer. It makes all the other glasses in the cabinet look a bit sad as looks down on them and says, "I have a cover!".

No torture involved! Thanks for sharing this one. Never seen one with a cover before!

They used to serve rum, hot water and sugar in rummers and the cover keeps it warm. The sugar would come in a solid crystalline cone shaped lump, they would break pieces off, put it in the hot water and rum and crush it with small pestles. That's why a lot of rummers have scratches on the bottom of the glass. This one has a few but is not too bad.
