US Tiawan Defense Command (USTDC) stood up in NOV 1955 with the mission to provide a planning headquarters for the defense of Tiawan and Pescadores. The Headquarters was in Taipei.
The USTDC was eliminated in APR 1979.
This lighter was produced by Konwal (Japan) as were the unit insignia. It appears to date from the 1960s and is complete and unused in the original box. In addition to the crest on the lighter, there is an additional charm type crest in the box. Lighters were a popular military souvenir and presentation item during the 1960s. Since this has no presentation engraving, I would think it was a souvenir item for a military man who served in the unit.
