Beautiful carved black panther that measures 19" in length and 4" tall. It appears to be very old; buildup of dust in hard to reach places, a hairline crack at the bottom of one of his legs following the line of the carving (which looks to be age related) , and its general appearance. A primitive item with some interesting details. Photos show a slight reddish look to the dark brown and the toolmark signs are there. From what I have researched it appears to be of African descent. He could be 100 years old or 500 years old for all I know. Does anyone know anything about him?

I looked up the 50's pottery black panther. Heck, my Mama had one! Was pretty amazed at the similarities, other than a few features. Researched the history of the ceramic version with no luck. I appreciate you noticing this comparison! With this wooden sculpture someone got creative, before or after the fact, who knows. Thank you!

Thank you Bellin...he was in a very dark corner of a very unorganized thrift shop behind vintage coats.
