British WWII Messenger steel helmet. Liner dated 1938, but the helmet only has numbers stamped on it, no maker, never seen that before, now relying on tinlid to give me the answer!!

Nice looking messenger, looks to be a W under the M, which would have been for Warden. The numbers stand for the steel batch number, sometimes numbers sometimes letters, so they could trace where the steel had come from if problems in production arose. I bet the date is under the chin strap lug, it is probably dated 1939 or 40 as the Mk3 chin strap lugs came into use in early 39.
