I don't know much about this ring. I believe it is a faceted crystal set in rose gold w/tiny diamond. No marks inside the band. It looks like a Flapper cocktail ring. Beautiful detail work.
Please help me figure out what this might be. I'll make it worth your while if I can retire on it....ha,ha,ha.

It looks art deco-ish to me, the mid twenties or something. But I've never seen anything like it before, so I cant help you with this one. If you ever get tired of it, I' ll give my adress ;-)
Thank you Agram. I never thought of amethyst - which comes in many colors - not just purple? I thought the quality of the setting was pretty special and it's size 6.75 which fits just fine. I have some old rings that are so tiny they can only go on pinky and I worry about losing them. I enjoy my items and wear them.

As I earlier said your ring could be made of a genuine Amethyst but also of Amethyst glass although because the real little rose cut diamond I don't think so.
And I still believe it's a late Victorian.
I own several pieces like the ring you are asking about. Back in the Victorian Era they were made for Ladies in Mourning. When a Lady had a death of a loved one each Pansy represented a death.. Some rings, pendants or even brooches and earrings either displayed one or more diamonds representing a passing of a loved one. I have seen peices that had up to 5 or 6 Diamond pansies. They are usually set into Amethyst or Quartz of some kind. The Rose Cut Diamonds are set into the stone surrounded by Rose Gold Inlay or Leafing. Most were sold in either sets or individual, depending on the status and monies that the family could afford. Sometime the tops and sides of the rings or other pieces of Mourning Jewelry would have Black intricate inlaid enameling..but most times they were worn away from wear and time. Queen Victoria started Mourning Jewelry being fashionable since she was Mourning the death of the her late husband. With whom she was very much in love with until her death. Hence the black Whitby Jet and other fashionable Mourning Jewelry that represented a passing of a loved one. Back then through history there was alot of deaths (Flu,Plague,Child Birthing,War,Duals ect) I hope this helps...I am a collector of Antique Mourning Jewelry which I will later today post some that have inlaid pansies with Rose Cut Diamonds set into 9k/9ct or higher karat gold. You have found a very lovely ring that is priced around $350-600 and on the sides were black enameling in between the etching of the ring which has worn off. I believe the gemstone to be a Quartz..either light Amethyst or a clear Quartz. Thanks for sharing!

I have a book on mourning jewelry but don't recall quartz rings w/gold leaf pansies featured. I'll definitely wear it with more respect now. (Before I thought it was a flapper jewel and only imagined her holding a martini....) Looking forward to seeing your collection. It is a favorite ring of mine. Thanks!
To learn a lot of antique jewelry I highly recommend two books which are very interesting and instructive.
1. An illustrated dictionary of jewelry by Harold Newman with 2530 entries, including definitions of jewels, gemstones, materials, processes, and styles and entries on principal designers and makers, for antiquity to the present day. 685 illustraions!
2. Starting to collect jewellery by John Benjamin
I own a lot of books about antique jewelry but these two I use the most. But I have to admit I still have to read and learn, I need more time !!

Valentino97 thank you for sharing! I forgot about those really neat Victorian Mourning Jewelry!! Amethyst is my Birthstone and I rarely wear them for the fact that they abraid so easily. That is why you see rings set with Amethyst or a Quartz so worn on the edges. and or chipped. I am self taught and I am grateful to be able to work with a A & C Claydon Jewelers. I sell for them on the side and they entrust me with knowing Antique or Vintage Jewelry. I am also ever learning and when I see a neat piece like this...I fall in love all over again....I own about 20 Antique Jewelry Books and drool at the pieces everyday :)

I prefer my geometric-look bevels and the shank is 1/4" wide, but it isn't marked so mine is probably lower gold content. Agree w/you both - must be a quartz. Very nice quality no chips or scratches to the stone. Thank you for your expertise!
