    Sixth plate ambrotype from mid 1850s- early 1860s.

    This type of image is typically used to portray mourning or loss. The child doesn't look to be wearing mourning clothes, so maybe it is just to show departure of the man (probably her father).

      There aren't enough details visible for me to call it a uniform.

      I do have another image of a woman holding an image of a soldier. If I remember where I put it, I'll post it later today!
