Another thrift shop find..are people so jaded by the junk in Walmart that they dump family heirlooms like this piece?
The stamp on the mug shows it was made between 1883-1886. It was well cared for all these years as the condition is very very good with just some crazing in the glaze.

It so sad to see family heirlooms discarded like that. My mum was the last of 10 kids, and I'm one of 8, so I have no family heirlooms, other than a few pieces of jewelry which I purchased for her in the 1970's. What's even worse is when you see old picture frames with the family photos still in them!
Mary, I agree, especially about the pictures. I hope my kids respect my pieces, not only for their value ( if they have any) but also for the people that produced them so so long ago.
Is 56 your birth year? I was born in 55 but feel 18
I totally agree, pictures and medals are the things that sadden me to see for sale. My dad has some medals that came from some uncles that died in WWI, and if I get them, I will make sure my son knows never to get rid of them.
We can only hope they respect our wishes.....
