Hi everyone. I finally finished cleaning this ring. I bought it at the thrift store a few days ago. I had the feeling it was silver, but it was too dirty to read. Sure enough there are the hallmarks for Mexican silver on the inside of the band. I like the ring, are these stones or glass? I like the color palate and the "S"shape. I don't know about wearing it, but it is nice as a collector's piece. Thanks for looking!!

I think the stones are a colored resin or something like that.

i'd bet the farm these are stones -- the halllmark MCR Eagle mark 2 is listed in the "little book of mexican silver trade & hallmarks" -- nice ring

hey epson233, thanks for chiming in. Does the book mention a name of the manufacturer. I can't find one online. Thanks! What type of stone do you think these could be?

mcr is not a manufacturer -- he/she is a silversmith over in mexico -- no mention is made as to what even his or her full name might be -- it is just documented in the book referenced above that others have found that particular hallmark on other pieces of silver from mexico -- the eagle stamp indicates a purity of at least .925 -- use of the eagle stamp on silver was officially discontinued in 1980 -- so your piece is at least pre 1980 -- mexico went to registration numbers after discontinuing the eagle -- i can also tell you based on the hallmark inside your ring that the artisan lived or worked in taxco mexico

if i had to venture a guess on the stones and i am certain they are stones and not glass or resin that they are within the chalcedony or quartz family -- it would be blue -- either lapis or sodalite (neither of these are of the quartz family but very commonly used in mexican jewelry); red -- jasper or perhaps cornelian; green -- aventurine and the yellow could possibly be sard which has been dyed using a strong sugar solution

I did some research on 1930 - 1970 Mexican silvers as a result of your earlier post. Very interesting, thanks for your help!!!
