This beautiful silver box has been in my family for longer than we can remember. I suspect it came over with one of my great grandparents at some point. However, this is all conjecture since nobody seems to know specifics. It is lined with what we think is cedar wood. It's about 5 inches long and 4 wide. Condition is a bit worn, but it's still lovely. Anyone know the maker's mark?

Thanks for your comments - a cigar box wouldn't surprise me - my great grandfather was a cigar maker and he came over from England! I'll check out that mark more closely.
realthings, my great grandfather was a cigar maker too. He was from central New Jersey, he came over from Poland.
Germany not Poland, its late.
:-) I'm going to get my magnifier to see if I can read the maker's mark more accurately.
Figured it out! The mark is: E.G. Webster. They were a company formed in Brooklyn New York in 1859. This mark was used between 1886-1928. So this was either my great grandfather's or my grandfather's. And it's American. Thanks to BHock45, I know it's a cigar box so mystery solved ;-)
