I try to avoid the RARE tag on items, but this one really fits the billing!

I just got this in today-- an 1864 dated carte de visite of a Philadelphia woman holding a PARROT.

As far as studio shots of animals go, dogs are seen regularly and cats are unusual, but this is the FIRST parrot that I have seen from this era.

I would suspect that her husband was a ships captain or other seafaring man.

The parrot has the only tinting-- a slight green to the wing and body.

This image can be dated to the first month of the revenue tax on photographs as it is cancelled with initials and "Aug 64".

Reproduction of this image in any form is prohibited.

    Love it.
Having the bird tinted shows how much she wanted others to see the beauty of the bird!
Is it holding something in it's beak?

Thanks for looking and commenting david! In the blow up image it appears that the bird does have something in its beak.
