    Not sure where this piece would have been shown,, Solid carved with a 1 inch oak shelf that was added when this was taken down/ Over 24 inches high/ Believe it to be mercury with the staff and snakes going around the face and wings on sides

      I just wonder if it's not based on the Rondanini Medusa or the Gorgon Medusa? The stare of death? To my eye this pedestal wall bracket looks Italian.

      MERCURY WAS A MESSENGER OF LIFE AND DEATH, THOUGHT THE PEDESTAL WAS ADDED MAYBE LATER WHEN IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE WALL OR FIREPLACE ORNAMENTAL. I WILL HAVE TO READ UP ON THE STARE OF DEATH...
