Seldom seen Machine Age Ivory Plaskon pre-war 1939 RCA victor known as the "Little Nipper" 9-SX is an incredibly well designed streamlined tube radio. This little radio is constructed of 3 separate white Plaskon Bakelite pieces, first is the Plaskon body, second is the wrap around deco grill with the great RCA Victor logo engraved vertically on the rounded corner, and third and last is the top Plaskon stepped trim piece. Even though these midget sized radios were popular in there time and offered in many color combinations, they have become hard to find in any combination due to its fragile Plaskon case. This example is made of Ivory Plaskon with streamlined red Tenite knobs.

Hello,
My father gave me his 9sx-4 Little Nipper Radio- red/ivory cabinet, your site is the only site Ive found with any information let alone a photo of it. I wanted to restore it for him, he is 91 yrs old. I think he would get a kick out of if at his age. Can you give me any information of where to buy tubes for it? Any information at all would be truly appreciated. Mac
Wow, that is great it was his radio - that color combo is difficult to find! They are not very common radios and are highly regarded by Bakelite and At Deco collectors. For repairing the radio I would not recommend you do it yourself unless you know what you are doing. If you search the Internet you can find people the repair vintage radios. Good luck...
Sorry so long in reply, I actually forgot I sent this until I had the radio out showing some friends, it reminded me to look at my email. Yes my dad bought it way back in the day, he is 91 now. Sorry I do not wish to sell it, it has more sentimental value than anything to me. I have an electrician friend at work that said he might have the right bulb tester for me. The light comes on and the tubes in the back get warm but thats it. So Ive got my work cut out for me. Id really like to repair it myself then give it back to my dad. I think he would get a kick out of it. I also have a 85 yr old uncle who was in the TV repair business, he might help as well. Thanks very much for your reply. Cheers to a Happy New Year.
thats a shining example of a now rare radio!
