I purchased this set at a yard sale for 10 dollars each because I liked the frames and wanted to use them put some paintings in them. The frames were sealed all around the edges of the back, and when I removed one of the backs I noticed the original picture inside was marked E. Vouga collection, and was numbered as pictured above. I have tried to find out information about the artist on the front but have not been successful. Before I replace these with something else I just wanted to post here and see if anyone here could provide any information. Thanks

Born in Vevey, Switzerland in 1840, Emile Vouga was an archaeologist and painter of birds and animals. Saw this valued:
Flower Studies by Mme E. Vouga, Series 2
Wirths Bros. & Owen, New York and London: Late 19th Century
Set of four chromolithographs loose in original wraps, as issued, 15 x 11.5 inches, $800, set of four

Emilie Vouga (née Pradès) was a Swiss painter of flowers and birds. Her flower paintings are still popular as posters today.

Colvert and Robert Wirth were Prussian-born engravers who were working in New York City as early as 1860. The firm Wirths Bros. & Owen also produced Christmas cards.

Condition: Four prints generally fine with only minor toning and wear. Printed flush to the edge, no margin, as issued. Wraps a bit soiled with some chips and short tears.
