I got this from my Grandpa. I don't know a whole lot about it, but I absolutely love it! Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

You don't want that thing, thats for cancer sticks and all. Stomp out cancer, Recycle your old ashtrays, please send to dave A'''''' LOL. I love it will post a pic of ashtrays I collected. Looks like a promo piece, maybe for travel agencys, or from Pan Am lounge. Dave
Recycle ashtrays and use them "vide-poches", at least then they are useful to put your keys in as you get home. This is a really nice "vide-poche"!
Beautiful ashtray. Due to the tv series there is increased interest in PAN AM items.

I am in the process of restoring one of these and would like to know what the words say on the band around the globe.
The airplane depicted is a Douglas DC-7 but the registration number is for an actuall DC-4 in Pan Am Livery in 1946. Pan Am got "dibbs" on the first DC-4's released from the USAAF so were the first commercial users. Thanks,
