I really really love these Lankkupullo vases by Helena Tynell. As far as I know they existed in two forms and four colors: Green, Blue, Yellow and Clear. Mine stands 27 cm high, and it has a width of 18 cm. It's very heavy, more than 2 kg. It had the Riihimäen catalogue number 1736.

It seems so typical ot the Seventies to me, a time when the glass factories felt that they were on the decline and developed different counter strategies. This phase is very touching in glass design.

These vases emanate a sort of raw industrial aesthetics. They remind heavy bottles for use, I don't know in which industry. I think, this is really characteristic for this period. But when you look on the details, you see how subtle this product is. The surface is like grained and it has irregular swellings. Moreover the color is irregular, too. It has lighter and darker fields and plays into yellow. And with all this this vase is a real miracle if you put it into good light.

This is not easy to show. On pictures they look often rather unattractive, and they don't seem to be very sought after.

On this blog (scroll down the page) you find some very beautiful pictures. They say that everyone of these vases is unique and that they were fabricated in wooden molds (or do you say mode?)

There you can also see the Lankku vases, made in the same technique and colors.
