This is normally not the epoch of Glass that I collect. But I was immediately seduced when I saw this little bowl on ebay. What I liked very much is, that it combines an Art nouveau-technique of iridiscent black glass with a form which I would see more as "Neue Sachlichkeit". It seems already to be more a form of functional design like it was developed in Vienna and Germany after World War I. It measures 13,5 cm in diameter.
In its delightful simplicity it nearly reminds me some beautiful pieces of japanese ceramics, let's say a tenmoku tea bowl.
But I have really to admit that I don't know anything about this sort of glass. It was sold to me as a "Palme und König" bowl created around 1920. But the seller was not a connoisseur. He only told me what the previous owner had told him. There you can see how much knowledge gets lost when a collection is dispersed. I'll try to collect some informations about Pallmé-König and present them on the new blog

This is more or less all that you can find as qualified informations in the internet.
Please tell me if you can help to identify the item. It has a signature that I read as "H.St" or "Jl.St."
To be honest, that snapped pontil and mark look more like studio glass than old glass. I didn't find much after doing a search for H. St., or even H. A., which it also looks like.
Hm, so you would say, that it is much younger, even after WW II? But the handwriting is rather old fashioned.
The mark appears to be an acid stamp. The house that made it created a stylized mark so their wares would be instantly recognizable. Yes, I would say after 1970. Just my opinion though. I am not infallible. Perhaps someone may recognize it and clear the mystery up for us.
I agree with dlfd911 , the snap pontil is of very recent use.
