My neighbor was helping me with some lawn and gardening work. Gardening is not my forte' and he made everything so much nicer.
I am self-taught and like to paint in gouache and especially cats. I offered to paint a portrait of his sweet indoor cat, Sugar, in return. My neighbor and his wife were both happy with the result. I like it too.

I love this! And have a very special affection for cats! Do you study any specific artists or time periods of folk art? What are your major influences from the history of folk art? How long have you been painting?
Thanks for your interest. I've been painting several years, part time--but this was my first portrait commission. Most of my influences are contemporary artists. I really haven't studied the history of folk art too much. Some of my favorite artists are Nikki Schumann, Martin Leman, Mimi Vang Olsen, and Sharon Jervis.
I've been a fan of Robin Carroll's work for many years and am fortunate to have several of her originals displayed on my wall. She has a fine eye for composition and color and is extremely meticulous, as evidenced by her ability to capture even the the tiniest details in her work. Every painting is special. Each one requires countless hours of effort before she can feel truly satisfied with her "creation." She deserves more recognition as an artist. Hopefully this web site will help more people discover her work. I wish her all the best. I only hope one day she'll feel inspired enough to do a painting of my cat, Finnegan.
I adore your art and your abilities to produce it. This could go on my wall anyday.
Would love to see some more of your paintings, especially after Chicken Little's comments.
Thanks, everyone. I'll try to get another painting up soon.
You are very talented. This work does have an element of antique folk-art paintings of cats, but is also very contemporary. You should be selling in galleries.
love this cat- love the primitive type painting. Very, very good.
Wonderful piece, I love it!!!!
