My niece is a skilled leather craftsman and I took these pictures of my collection for a binder I gave her for Christmas. It had a 1920's leather manual w/patterns I bought from ebay. But these are the pictures that she likes to refer to for ideas on joins and cut.

I use the black bag and #2 pic two-tone the most. Also favorites of mine are the colorful clutch lower left #1 pic and the cowhide black & white small clutch on step 3. Since this picture I've added a few more Arts & Crafts era tooled purses too.

I have them all displayed above my book shelf so can enjoy them everyday....and yes, they need to be dusted off now that I think about it.

Thank you bratjdd, birdie, manikin and autumn for your nice comments. Tooled purses and belts tend to dry out and look really bad so they don't have good reputation in the vintage world - except thank you - for those of us who care for them and give them some TLC.

love furs also-- but i only buy vintage -- as i do not what hunters going after the animals -- when one wears clothing well i sometimes wonder -- will it start a rage -- as what is going on currently in spain and the new fashion for furs -- but what do you do -- i just like to stay warm and enjoy them -- always a mental brain teasers -- they should not go to the landfills -- so struggle with this one as i am animal lover from the get go -- i would place the car in a spin out to save a rabbit -- or turtle -- but i always get lucky as the car comes through etc etc -- good thinks happen to good people who try and do what is right

Well - those vintage furs need to be recycled, not just left to dry out and rot because PC fashionistas are afraid to wear them. Back in the Midwest in the early 80's I had 2: beautiful 1950's long A-line grey Persian lamb and a brown 1940's or 50's car length coat. I loved them so much and got a lot of use out of them even throwing them on top of the quilts on the coldest nights. Some old coats have been remade into "patchwork" quilts or pillows which I think is a great idea. It never gets cold enough here so I don't have any fur anymore. Enjoy chatting w/you!
