Since this photo was taken by the Foster Photo Company of Miles City, Montana, I am assuming that that this photo was captured from around that area.

It's a really nice image, and the cowboy looks pleased. Was it because he roped the calf quickly, or because of what looks like the calf giving him a kiss?

    This is a postcard....

Bull Dogging or Steer wrestling is one of the rodeo sports that animal rights activists are trying to ban, it involves a horse-mounted rider chasing a steer, who drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by twisting its horns. It is a timed event & the clock stops when the steer is flat out on the ground on it's flank.
The photographer caught the image right at the exact moment.

I did find a link to a Walter Lynch

Thanks, walksoftly, both for the love and for the research! Bull Dogging, it seems has its good and bad points, and as such will have its supporters and detractors.

Yes, the photographer was very fortunate to have framed that shot so well, and especially since, as I mentioned earlier, he had less sophisticated equipment than we do now..

Thanks for the link on this photo, and as well as the ones that you previously posted.

I would like to think it's because he is giving him a bit of love/kiss...:-)
