I would really appreciate it if any of you could tell me who designed these unusual Deco "rings of Saturn" bookends. The maker's mark is a reversed "R" and a "B" as you can see in picture #3. Although they have a silver finish, it's obvious that they are actually solid bronze where the silver finish has worn off (see also picture # 3). Each half measures 4 1/2 high x 4 1/2 wide by 2 1/2 deep, and they weigh a TON !! My guess is that they are late 1930's or thereabouts, but that's just a guess. Knowing what that maker's mark is would probably tell me with certainty.
By the way, can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove the "silver" finish and restore these to their original bronze color? I happen to think that they would look even better in bronze.
Thanks in advance for any info you may be able to provide!
