The wood is oak and the chairs have been in the family for 50+ years and were purchased from an antique shop, auction, or thrift store. The chair measures 45" from floor to top of chair back. The chair seat is 17 1/2 " from the floor. When the upholstered seat is included the chair heighth is 18". It appears that the chair originally had a smaller inset upholstered seat based on the cutout in the seat. Currently, the upholstered seat extends beyond the cutout. I love the graceful design of the back and the chair legs and would like to know more about this style.
