This lamp has been in someone's house for as long as I can remember. All I know is it is a family treasure. The family emigrated from Switzerland. I believe that is a possible source of the lamp. It has to be over 100 years old. I have never been able to find any information about the lamp. The shade feels like a type of cloth. The the beads feel like glass to the touch. Everything is original. Condition is very good. The only negative is several missing beads.

I love lamps! Your lamp looks awesome with the shade that's on it! You should enjoy it for years to come because they made things to last back then!

The shade is the most extraordinary part of this lamp! I worked in the lampshade industry for years and these just don't survive. The shade is made of silk and is hand painted. It should be kept away from sunlight (those windows!) and any source of heat. Use very low watt bulbs...in other words, this should not be used as task lighting (reading, etc.). Appliance bulbs that are 25w or cfl bulbs would be best. Looks like the silk has turned on the interior due to daily use at some point (happens with all silk shades). The base is a typical 1900-1910's base...mass produced in several countries, especially in Europe. Congrats on such a gorgeous lamp and shade!

I have a lamp base just like this and it was made by the Chicago Mosaic Lamp Company (stated on the bottom of the base). My shade is a lot like this one with painted boats. It is much heavier than silk, but I do not know what material my shade is made from.

Curious, did you ever look beneath the lamp? Mine is exactly the same and it states that it is The Chicago Mosaic Lamp Company. I thought that they only made glass shades, but your shade is so similar to mine. Now I am beginning to believe that the base and shade were always together.
