This is a brass container of some kind. I also have the same item in aluminum.
It is 13 1/2 inche tall and 11 inches wide. The tension on the handle of the lid appears to be a copper spring.
I have had the containers for 25 years, but suspect that they date back to the late 1800's or early 1900's.
Does anyone know what the proper name of this item, what it was used for or when they were made?

What is this Item?
I can't find anything on these containers. Are there any markings? Look all over, inside and out, maybe there is a tiny mark somewhere that will help you figure out what these are.
I have looked all over the containers and there are not any markings inside or out.
These were found these in 1985 in the basement of a house that was over 100 years old at that time. The house was build by a doctor and someone sugested that medical supplies may have been shipped to him in these. There were two brass and 17 aluminum containers there.
I can not find these anywhere. Must be a rare item. I also would like to find out what they are. Very nice looking.
Do you have anymore information on these brass containers?
