I was wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what these items are. I believe they are some kind of Japanese Alcohol/Liquor trays, but when I look them up, I find lots of designs, but not this specific one. I have two peices (not sure if there was a third piece to the set). The small tray is about 10.75 x 7 x 1.25" and the larger one is about 18.75 x 11.25 x 1.5". On the back of the bigger tray, the labels read: "Toyo Japan" & "Alcohol & Stainproof Lacquer Ware just wipe with a damp cloth to bring out its beauty. MADE IN JAPAN"
There are what appears to be White Lilies and Orange Daisies, but I could be wrong. The handles have some type of pulled rubber or something on them. Also, their rim has a gold coat on it.

I wish I had all the research information I had 12mths ago as I had 2 different patterns on them & as I was researching to sell all my collectables I had some. As when we were leaving I had to get rid of the information as at that stage the amount of paper I had was way to much. If it didn't fir in the car it had to go most things broke my heart but that is life & when I get set up properly will start again. As I collect all things to go into a home. In the handles I think you will find the plastic cover has a sort of wood in it.

Hi, I have a set of three of these. The largest is 19 X 11 (all in inches), the next is 10.5 x 10.5 and the smallest is 10.5 x 7. The two smaller trays nest in the large one. The background is black with gold metal flake and the colors essentially the same as yours. The pattern is leaves and berries on vines, but no blossoms. I have had this set for forty yeas or more and don't know if it was bought or a gift. The thing that interests me most is the Toyo label. Three months ago I posted three figures of Japanese children made by Toyo and said in that posting "Extensive searches for Toyo yield multiple findings, all Japanese based, but nothing related to this subject". (Or anything to do with Japanese art for that matter.) No replies on that posting with regard to Toyo. Regards, Jim
