Hello,
If anyone could give me more information about this figure. The paint is peeling of in some spots. The top of this figure comes of. The bottom has a notch that it fits over. The base is hollow. No marking. It seems to be made of clay or porcelain.
How old is it and who made it? Was it serving any purpose beside the decoration? It seems to be pretty old. I do keep it as a nice decoration that always get attention from my guests. I just cannot tell them nothing about it.
It is very tall at 22" and is about 12" wide.

She seems to be a display piece and her face reminds me of the large eye Japan Bradley doll. She looks to be made of plaster not porcelain . The eyes look like the ones on Keane photo's

In time they also became known and referred to as "Waifs," "Keane," "Sad Eyes," and many other titles, all depicting the unique styles of this very creative woman. You may be surprised to hear the artist is a woman. You see, for many years she was married to a man who claimed credit for what she painted. To prove she was in fact the artist and not her former husband, she painted in court before a Federal Judge and jury, an original oil on canvas painting. When her ex-husband was asked to paint by the judge, his reply was: "I can't today, because I have a sore shoulder." Needless to say Margaret won the case and she continues to paint those Big Eyes we have come to love. This was not done by her but many companies copied her big eye girls. Yours could have been made in a ceramic studio by special order also . The painting of eyes seems to be done by an experienced painter vs just a student in a class . Interesting and I love her . As you had given me all the important information, I have to work. I won't be able to follow your lead until Wednesday. I will take a look at her in the morning but I don't think she has any markings. It doesn't hurt to double check. I do really appreciate all that you had told me. My research led me to the dead street. I couldn't even get the name.
I would look at the site you had provided me with and that will help.
My husband kept on telling me she was old, just based on the paint and colors.

Hi well I guess it depends on how old is old :-) I used to think 40 was over the hill ,now I think that is young :-)
Anyway all her characteristics point to 1960's and 70's . She has hair style often done by Bradley dolls . her colors reminds me of Cinderella or Mary Poppins but she is not them . She must have been a store display and possibly for a Christmas window . I do love her and I am thinking she belongs in a winter scene so Christmas seems logical I can see her in a Store window .
