This is a poster on thin paper of Angela Davis, who was imprisoned from the fall of 1970 until the spring of 1972 for her connection to a courtroom murder. She was acquitted. While in prison, an artist in Cuba named Felix Beltran made this poster. The dimensions of this poster are 13.5 x 21.5 inches. I have seen other versions of this poster, but not firsthand, so I have no idea if this is a reprint or what, although the person I got it from has had it since the 1970s, so it's at least that old.
Thanks in no small part to her photogenic Afro, Davis's image was used in numerous pieces of protest art in the early 1970s. In recent years, Shepard Fairey has made several posters of Angela Davis, including one based on this image by Beltran.
